Housing Help

It is the Vision of Habitat for Humanity to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Whether you are a single parent, a veteran of the armed forces, or just have low income and need help owning or buying a home for your family Habitat for Humanity of Camp County is here to help families here in our local communities own their homes. We help families that partner with us build and own their own homes through our Home Ownership Program.  We seek to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat relies on donations and volunteer work to keep homes affordable for the families that we aid.

Home Ownership Program

We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

We believe that stronger homes will create stronger communities.

Habitat for Humanity builds decent and affordable homes around the world in partnership with families in need of a decent place to live. Habitat home buyers help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.

All Habitat Homes follow the same guiding principles:

Decent

Habitat houses are modestly sized. They are large enough for the homeowner family’s needs but small enough to keep construction and maintenance costs affordable.

Habitat for Humanity uses quality, locally available building materials. Habitat home designs reflect the local climate and culture.

Affordable

The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes, and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses.

Habitat houses in the United States are typically built using wood frame construction, Gypsum board interior walls, vinyl siding, and asphalt shingle roofs.

U.S. Habitat houses are modestly sized with three-bedroom houses typically not exceeding 1,050 square feet of living space.

How to Qualify for a Habitat Home

Habitat homeowners must be active participants in building a better home and future for themselves and their families. Every Habitat home is an investment. For us, it is one answer to a critical need, and we believe that stronger homes will create stronger communities.

  • Prospective Habitat homeowners must demonstrate a need for safe, affordable housing. Need will vary from community to community.

  • Once selected, Habitat homeowners must partner with us throughout the process. This partnership includes performing “sweat equity” or helping to build their own home or the homes of others in our home ownership program. Sweat equity can also include taking home ownership classes or performing volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity

  • Homeowners must also be able and willing to pay an affordable mortgage. Mortgage payments are cycled back into the community to help build additional Habitat houses

Habitat for Humanity of Camp County follows a nondiscriminatory policy of home-buyer selection. Neither race nor religion is a factor in our approval process.

Home Preservation Program

We offer home repair services to homeowners so they can continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come. Some of our home repair work includes painting, landscaping, weatherization, and minor repair services to preserve home exteriors and revitalize neighborhoods.

How Does Home Preservation Work?

As with our Home Ownership Program, families partner with Habitat based on income, need, and willingness to help. We keep costs low by using donated supplies and a group of volunteers to perform the work. We provide an affordable loan for the homeowner to cover the cost of the work and the payments made on the loan are placed back into a rotating fund to help other families in need.

Why does Habitat provide these services?

Besides the necessity of a safe, well-maintained home for every family, our preservation services help to revitalize neighborhoods, create community connections, and preserve affordable housing for years to come. Contact Habitat for Humanity of Camp County to find out how you can help with our home preservation projects.
